This replacement offset upper control arm shaft corrects an inherent GM design flaw in the stock upper control arm alignment settings. Original alignment specs were set to help manual steering cars steer easier. The problem is it causes the wheel to tilt outward at the top when turning which means the tire is forced to roll over toward it’s sidewall. This is called negative caster. Shopping cart front wheels have lots of negative caster. These shafts have slightly different geometry which will cause the tire to tilt inward at the top when turning, and greatly improve their “bite” on the pavement. This is called positive caster. An alignment shop can easily set a car with these shafts for 2-3 degrees positive caster.
